Travel Insurance

The question we are asked more than any other is, “What do you do about health insurance?”

We use a combination of self insurance and travel insurance. Self insurance just means we pay all of our bills in cash. If we were in the United States, we would purchase health insurance on one of the State Exchanges or the National Exchange.

When comparing the various options, I’ve routinely relied on World Nomads.

What do you recommend for world travelers who are U.S. citizens and who plan to visit the U.S. for two to four months per year?

I am a world traveler who is a US citizen and when I visit the US I use World Nomads. If you are a resident of the US (I have Taiwan resdency), this will cover you except within 100 miles of your permanent address. If you are a resident of the US and plan to be within 100 miles of “home” then I don’t have a good solution.

Something else to be aware of are the ACA requirements.

How much is your premium for travel insurance? specially for you since you are constantly moving. Do you pay the same premium every month? do you have to notified your insurance regarding your next trip then you get a quote?
I do want to travel the world just like your family

I was paying less than $100/month for Western Europe & US. Elsewhere I just self-insure, or have national health insurance when we are in Taiwan (current home base.)

I have Medicare, which is only good in the USA. What do you think of simply obtaining a medical evacuation insurance plan to get back home in case of serious health problems abroad? Is this a good solution?
