I’ve never been to Disneyland, but that is going to change this year. I recently finalized reservations for a 7-day / 6-night trip to LA with 5-day Disney passes.

I figure… the only thing better than a family trip to Disneyland… is a deeply discounted family trip to Disneyland.

This is how we are planning a “Once in a Lifetime” trip for 2 adults and 2 children for less than $100/day, including meals.

As summer travel begins to take shape, many of us will find ourselves spending a significant amount of time in airports – especially with the recent trend of canceled and delayed flights among domestic carriers. What better way to pass the time and frustration than to relax in a quiet and comfortable lounge, ensconced from the madness of the terminal?

Today we’ll discuss how to do so for free.

If you’ve followed the advice of this blog for any amount of time, you’ve probably opened at least a few credit cards to take advantage of the benefits of miles and points for (nearly) free travel. But as you add more and more cards to the wallet, annual fees begin to add up and eventually there is a point of diminishing returns. You might consider closing credit cards to reduce the financial burden, but before doing so there are several important things to consider.

Read this article first before closing any cards!

When planning for a recent weekend trip to Boston, I was poking around at the availability of hotels and found cash prices to be exceedingly high during our dates at $300+ per night. I scoffed at the idea of handing over $1,000 or more for a couple of nights away and instead turned to my trusty award miles to see if there was a most cost-effective approach.

As it turns out, I found a good deal on a centrally-located Hyatt property and was able to snag it for 8,500 points + $73 per night, a value of 3.8 cents per point as the cash prices were $398. In this post, I’ll explain how to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards® to Hyatt for great value.

One of the best deals in modern award travel is the Companion Pass offered by Southwest Airlines. With it, you can fly two passengers for the price of one on both paid and award flights, offering massive long-term value.

Though the Companion Pass has traditionally been difficult to earn (more on that below), Chase has increased the welcome bonus offers on the personal versions of their Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards to enable earning it with just a single sign-up – and the deal ends March 14, 2022.

Plans, They Are A Changin’

As the summer of 2021 was wrapping up, more and more countries began opening their borders to international travelers. Having been hopeful of this, I booked us on an extravagant multi-month round-the-world trip for minimal out-of-pocket cost using award miles and points, only to have the trip crumble and slip through my fingers as COVID-19 flareups and the eventual Omicron variant came into play.

We still managed to get out of the country for the winter, but we ended up in an entirely different hemisphere.
