Every so often, a deal for free money comes around that is too easy to pass up. Today is one of those days!

Last year around this time, Uber Eats via MyPoints was offering $250 for new delivery drivers after making a single delivery, which worked for my wife and me (and many readers) to cash in with minimal effort. Ahh, that one was sweet.

Banks often run promotions as well, whereby they offer some cash incentive for opening a new account and completing a number of tasks such as switching your paycheck’s direct deposit to the account or transferring a certain dollar amount within their prescribed time limits.

Personally, I have opened dozens of bank accounts in the last decade to take advantage of such bonuses. Not only was the cash nice, but sometimes the bank allowed funding the account with a credit card so I could work down a minimum spend requirement at the same time. Nowadays I open fewer of these accounts because the requirements have gotten more arduous and the bonuses diminished, so I only jump on one if it’s a screaming deal – like the one I’m writing about today.

Free Money from Fidelity

Fidelity is currently offering $150 to anyone that opens a Cash Management account, investment account, Roth IRA, or Traditional IRA account using the promo code FIDELITY150. To get the bonus, you must deposit $50 (which does not have to be a direct deposit from your employer) within 15 days of opening the account. The bonus will be credited to the account within 25 days of the transfer and must be held in the account for 90 days or be subject to forfeiture. This offer ends on December 2, 2022.

How to Complete This Offer

  • Get started by going to the offer page. If you already have a Fidelity account, log in prior to clicking the link to expedite the process.
  • Click “Get Started” and scroll down to the Fidelity® Cash Management Account and click “Open Account”. You can open any of the other accounts listed, but the Cash Management account is easiest because it’s just a regular deposit account with no fees or withdrawal restrictions.
  • Complete the simple application (if you are already logged in, most of the application is pre-filled).
  • On the Review page, ensure the FIDELITY150 promo code has been added. If you clicked through the offer link, it’s likely pre-filled (mine was).
  • Submit the application. Once approved, link an existing external account through the Transfers page and make a one-time transfer of $50+.
  • Let the account sit for 90 days.
  • Profit.

Things to Know

  • This offer ends December 2, 2022 – get on it fast!
  • You must make your $50+ deposit within 15 days of opening the account.
  • Your bonus should be paid within 25 days of your $50 deposit and must sit in the account for 90 days before withdrawal. If taken out early, Fidelity may claw back the bonus. You never know if this is enforced or not, but best not to risk it.
  • There are no fees associated with the account.
  • If you did a similar offer with Fidelity in the last 12 months, you will not be eligible for this promotion.
  • Having an existing account with Fidelity does not preclude you from this offer and you should still be eligible.

Final Thoughts

This is one of those deals that’s so easy it doesn’t make sense to skip. Opening an account takes 2 minutes (less if you already have one) and the $50 transfer is minimally invasive. The only catch is that you can’t withdraw the bonus right away, so this is best thought of as a “spring bonus” instead of a holiday gift. I signed up both myself and my wife for this and look forward to $300 in our pockets in March. This offer ends soon, so don’t put this one off!

FYI – GCC has no relationship with Fidelity and we get nothing if you (do or don’t) take advantage of this great offer.
